MANILA, Philippines – Undefeated flyweight Milan Melindo is hopeful he’d get a world title shot soon.
Melindo, one of the more technical fighters of the ALA Boxing stable, feels ready to rule the flyweight division according to Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.
However, Melindo will first need to take care of his next assignment, former world champion Jean Piero Perez of Venezuela in “Pinoy Pride XVI” on September 22.
The fight card will be aired on September 23 over ABS-CBN Channel 2 starting at 10:15 a.m. with a replay over Studio 23.
Melindo is ranked No. 1 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said they are working to arrange a title fight for Melindo “hopefully next year.”
The reigning WBO flyweight champion is fellow Filipino Brian Viloria.
Four other Filipinos are also ranked among the top six challengers, including Froilan “The Sniper” Saludar, Rocky Fuentes, Rodel Mayol and Glenn Donaire, the brother of world champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr.
