MANILA – The 2008-09 Motolite-Fiesta Conference champions San Miguel Beermen have acquired Sta. Lucia Realtors’ Denok Miranda as an addition to its squad.

A report on said the move is “seen as preparation for the impending exit of veteran point guard Olsen Racela.”

San Miguel coach Siot Tanquingcen told “In a way, pwedeng sabihing preparation namin ito for Olsen's retirement.”

“Pero medyo matagal pa yon. Pinapakita pa rin ni Olsen na kaya pa niyang maglaro,” he noted.

In exchange for Miranda, the Beermen have handed over to the Realtors their 2012 first round draft pick.

“Medyo overloaded na kami sa point, pero pwede pa rin gamitin lahat yan. It's just some of them have to sacrifice minutes,” said Tanquingcen.

Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandez, for his part, said that he will “surely miss” Miranda. He, however, added that he is also happy that Miranda is with the Beermen.

“It hurts to see Denok go. He's one of the cornerstones of our team and losing him is a hard pill to swallow,” remarked Fernandez.

According to the report, Fernandez understands that the Sta. Lucia management gave up Miranda “due to salary cap constraints.”
