PH dragon boat team nabs 5 golds in world tilt

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine national dragon boat team won 11 medals in the 2014 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships in Poland, including five gold medals.

The team also won three silver medals and three bronze medals to place fourth in the medal table behind Russia, Hungary, and Ukraine and ahead of Germany and the host country.

They won four golds in the 200-meter distance events, finishing first in the seniors men's 20-seater, seniors mixed 10-seater, seniors men's 10-seater, and junior men's 10 seater. They also won the gold medal in the juniors men's 10-seater for the 500-meter distance event.

They nabbed the silver medal in the seniors men's 20-seater, the seniors mixed 10-seater, and the seniors men's 10-seater in the 500-meter distances as well.

The team placed third in the senior men's 20-seater, senior men's 10-seater, and juniors men's 10-seater in the 200-meter distance events.

The Philippine Canoe Kayak Federation, in a post on its Facebook account, said the athletes who represented the nation in Poland are "first time paddlers" for a world championship event.
