MANILA, Philippines – The La Salle alumnus who was involved in a near altercation with Ateneo head coach Bo Perasol following the UAAP game between the Green Archers and the Blue Eagles aired his side of the story on Monday.

After La Salle’s 66-64 victory over Ateneo, the Blue Eagles were on their way back to the dugout when Perasol suddenly charged toward the La Salle side of the patron section. He was seen pointing and shouting at a heckler, who has since been identified as La Salle alumnus JJ Atayde.

In a phone interview with TJ Manotoc of ABS-CBN News, Atayde explained his side of the story.

“After ng game, medyo nagkakasayahan na doon sa La Salle side,” he said. “Tapos, lumabas na ‘yung Ateneo team. They were going out, at natural naman sa La Salle-Ateneo game na nagkakaroon ng kantyawan and everything.”

Medyo, he lost his temper, he lost his cool,” he added.

Atayde said he feels “very sad and unfortunate” that the situation escalated, and admitted that he regretted his words.

Perasol told ABS-CBNnews.com after the game that Atayde had shouted something that he did not like.

There were also reports that La Salle alumni shouted curses at Perasol, although Atayde said he did not hear them.

“Hindi ko personally narinig… Medyo maingay eh.

Atayde also pointed out that emotions usually run high during La Salle-Ateneo games.

“Siguro matututo tayo sa mga pangyayaring ganito,” he said.

It was the first time since 2001 that La Salle swept the elimination round meetings between the two arch-rivals.
