Fr. Martin Cup: Stags, Eagles remain in the hunt

 MANILA, Philippines – The San Sebastian College-A Stags and the Ateneo Blue Eagles waylaid separate opponents to stay in contention for semi-final berths in the 10th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament.

Leo de Vera fired 13 points for the Stags, who waylaid the De La Salle Green Archers, 71-56, at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium in Quezon City over the weekend.

The Stags, coached by Allan Trinidad, recorded their fourth triumphs in five games in Group A.

Meanwhile, Vince Tolentino scored seven points for the Blue Eagles, who defeated the San Sebastian B squad. The Eagles improved to 3-1 in Group B.

Tournament commissioner Robert dela Rosa said the top two teams in each bracket will advance to the semi-final round.

In the juniors division, Mark Anthony Framil fired 21 points for the San Beda Red Cubs, who walloped the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs, 67-45.

They romped off to their second consecutive victory in Group A, joining Hope Christian High School in the early lead.

Rainier Magcalas hit 20 points for the Adamson Baby Falcons, who thwarted San Benildo, 69-59, and picked up their first win in two outings.
