MANILA - Gilas Pilipinas again lost another heartbreaker at the FIBA World Cup, this time to one of the world's top 3 teams at the Palacio Municipal de Deportes San Pablo in Spain.
Despite the defeat, Filipinos praised the national team's efforts as it almost pulled off an upset win against Argentina, losing only by 4 points.
While the whole team earned praise, one name stood out from the rest.
Jimmy Alapag, nicknamed the "Mighty Mouse," came up big for Gilas notably in the final quarter, keeping the game close with several dagger three-pointers.
He even hit one just under the 2-minute mark to cut the lead to just one point.
Alapag finished with 15 points, boasting an impressive 5 out of 7 clip from behind the arc.
His performance launched his name to the top of Twitter's worldwide trends, with netizens jokingly calling for him to run for president in the 2016 national elections.
