MANILA, Philippines – Arellano University hopes to fortify its place in the top two as it clashes with a dangerous Perpetual Help side Monday in the NCAA Season 90 men's basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Chiefs are currently in solo second place with a 9-2 win-loss mark and a victory in their highly anticipated rematch with the Altas will send them back on top along with the San Beda Red Lions (10-2).

Arellano coach Jerry Codinera said he is planning to use the same battle plan in their first encounter last July 26 when the Chiefs outran and outgunned Perpetual Help, 97-85.

"We want to keep on attacking," said Codinera. "It worked for us in our first meeting."

But the Altas are out to avenge that loss, and seasoned mentor Aric del Rosario is planning a different approach this time.

"It's hard to beat them in transition," he noted. "So our plan is to quicken the pace when they're slowing it and slow down the pace when they're starting to run."

A win for Perpetual Help will keep them at the No. 3 spot while closing the gap between them and the Chiefs by just a game.

Game time is at 2 p.m.

Jose Rizal University, meanwhile, will collide with Lyceum at 4 p.m. The Bombers are seeking to get back at Lyceum, which beat them 84-80 in their first round meeting last July 28, as well as keep their place in the third spot.
