MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – The Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) Blue Eagles extended their winning streak to 8 games with a 77-67 drubbing of rival De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers on Saturday’s UAAP men’s basketball.
Ryan Buenafe led Ateneo in front of more than 17,000 spectators at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with a career-high 24 points.

He added 8 rebounds aside from doing a marvelous job getting past the defense of La Salle’s rookie standout Jeron Teng.
Buenafe, Season 73’s Finals Most Valuable Player, scored 9 of his 24 points in the opening quarter when Ateneo took a 26-10 lead over La Salle.
Almond Vosotros rained triples in the second quarter to help the Archers cut the Eagles’ lead to 6 to end the half, 35-29.
La Salle came within striking distance after a run capped by Teng’s trey decimated Ateneo’s lead to 2 points, 44-42, in the third quarter.
The Eagles, however, regained their composure and upped their lead to double digits, 57-46, going into the final period.
The Archers tried to make a final push in the fourth, but Ateneo held off La Salle by leading by as much as 12.
Kiefer Ravena finished with 18 points, while Nico Salva added 12 for the Eagles Ateneo.
Teng tallied 22 points for the Archers, while Vosotros chipped in 20.
With the win, Ateneo remained ahead in the team standings with a 9-1 record.
La Salle, meanwhile, suffered its first loss in five games. They now have a 6-4 win-loss card.
