MANILA, Philippines – Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort said he’ll be coming down on Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones like a champion when they clash in September 22.
The mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar told the MMA Hour that he’ll be entering the Octagon thoroughly prepared to challenge Jones.
“It's gonna be old lion versus young lion. I’ll prepare myself to be the best I can be, I'm gonna fight like a champ,” said the Phenom.
Belfort took the fight after Jones’ original opponent, Dan Henderson, withdrew due to a knee injury.
Belfort is excited because it’s his chance to become a UFC champion again.
“I'm a legend, not a diva, that's why I took this fight… I'm privileged to fight Jon Jones,” the Brazilian MMA fighter said.
Belfort first won the UFC light heavyweight championship in 2004 when he stopped Randy Couture.
Couture, however, recaptured the title during their rematch.
Belfort is a veteran of 30 fights, with 21 wins and nine defeats.
Jones, on the other hand, carries a record of 16 wins and one loss.
