MANILA – Rookie guard Chris Banchero, who shockingly fell to the Alaska Aces as the fifth pick in the recent PBA Draft, says he is excited to play with his new team's other guards even as he acknowledged that he will have to work hard to earn his minutes.
Banchero was very impressive during the PBA Draft Combine yet fell to the fifth pick, where Alaska wasted no time taking him.
"I'm excited," Banchero said after he was drafted. "I talked to (Alaska) Coach (Alex) Compton yesterday. They got a lot of pieces, so I think it's a real good team for me."
"They've got a real good backcourt, and I think I can do a lot there," he added.
Banchero joins a team that already has JV Casio, RJ Jazul, and Raphy Reyes, and he says he is excited to show what he can do alongside with his new teammates.
"I know they have a bunch of guards there and I'm excited to play with them. I'm excited to join that team, because I know they always go deep in the playoffs every single year," said Banchero in an interview with PBA.ph.
He also said that having to earn minutes was a "given" in the PBA.
"I'm always gonna work hard regardless where I'm at," he promised.
At the same time, Banchero believes he can bring a lot to the Aces.
"I'm a point guard. I'm there to make my teammates better," he said. "I'll try to bring as much offense and defense every night."
