MANILA – The Philippine national football team defeated Global FC, 3-1, Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in a friendly match ahead of their campaign in the Philippine Peace Cup.

Phil Younghusband scored the opener at the 24th minute off a pass from Nate Burkey, allowing the Azkals to enter halftime with a 1-0 lead against the UFL giants.

Carli De Murga, who was substituted in at the start of the second half, made it 2-0 for the Azkals in the 63rd minute.

Patrick Reichelt put the Azkals on top 3-0 in the 77th minute via a penalty after he was brought down by the Global goalkeeper inside the box.

Global pulled one back in the 82nd minute thanks to a goal from Mark Winhoffer.

The match helped the Azkals prepare for their title retention campaign in the Peace Cup, which starts on September 3 with the Philippines taking on Chinese-Taipei.
