MANILA, Philippines – Cagayan Valley and Army open their best-of-three Shakey's V-League Season 11 Open Conference finals series Thursday at the Arena in San Juan, with the Rising Suns seeking to retain their title.

Cagayan had registered a 16-game sweep of the conference last year but odds are all but even between them and the Lady Troopers, who boasts of one of the league's most star-studded line-ups.

Game time is at 4:00 p.m.

Philippine Army advanced to the Finals after sweeping the Philippine Air Force in the semi-finals and has been the more consistent team this season, thanks to the efforts of players like Rachel Ann Daquis, Jovelyn Gonzaga, MJ Balse, and Nerissa Bautista.

Meanwhile, Cagayan was on the brink of elimination in the quarterfinals but found their form in time, and also swept their semi-finals opponent, PLDT Home Telpad.

"Army is a strong team, but beatable," Cagayan coach Nes Pamilar told the league website. "We have to match their aggressiveness if we want to beat them, and we're doing good based on our last few games."

Cagayan and Army split their two elimination round games, both of which were four-setters.

Pamilar will rely on Aiza Maizo, Janine Marciano, Pau Soriano, and libero Shiela Pineda to help neutralize the firepower of Army.

Meanwhile, there will be a battle for third place between PLDT Home Telpad and Air Froce at 2:00 p.m., followed by the awarding ceremonies for the conference's best players.

Game 2 will be on Sunday.
