NU clinches semis berth in UAAP women's hoops

MANILA, Philippines – National University (NU) made quick work of Far Eastern University (FEU), 67-50, to clinch the first semi-finals berth in the UAAP Season 77 women's basketball tournament over the weekend at the Blue Eagle Gym.

It was the 10th straight victory for the Lady Bulldogs, who also remain on course for an outright Finals berth and a thrice-to-beat advantage.

The MVP contenders delivered for NU as Shelly Gupilan had 15 points and seven rebounds, Afril Bernardino added 14 points and eight boards, and Trixie Antiquiera contributed 11 markers.

Meanwhile, defending champion De La Salle University won its second straight game at the expense of rivals Ateneo, 53-37, with Trisha Piatos scattering 15 points.

Cass Santos scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Lady Archers, who improved to 8-2, good for second place.

University of Santo Tomas and Adamson University gained a share of third place with identical 5-5 records after beating their respective opponents.

Lore Rivero scored 12 points while Maica Cortes had a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards as the Tigresses overpowered the University of the East, 54-36, while Jinky Balasta had 20 points for the Lady Falcons in their 59-47 win over the University of the Philippines.

The Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Eagles fell to 4-5, putting their Final Four aspirations in peril.

The Lady Warriors and the Lady Maroons slipped to 2-7 and 0-9, respectively.
