MANILA, Philippines – GlobalPort Batang Pier is expected to pick Stanley Pringle with the top pick of the 2014 PBA Rookie Draft, but matters become more uncertain from the second pick onward when the draft gets underway Sunday at the Robinsons Midtown Atrium in Ermita, Manila.
A total of 87 rookies will hope to hear their name called in Sunday's draft, with Pringle most likely the one called first after GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio confirmed that they are taking him.
Rain or Shine will have the second pick, where they can choose among players like Kevin Alas and Chris Banchero, who have impressed during the Draft Combine.
To make things more interesting, boxing champion and KIA Motors head coach Manny Pacquiao also threw his name into the draft, although he is not expected to be present in Sunday's festivities.
KIA is expected to take Pacquiao with the 11th pick.
Picking third is Barako Bull, followed by NLEX, Alaska, Barangay Ginebra, San Mig Coffee, Barako Bull, Rain or Shine, Barako Bull, KIA and Blackwater.
San Miguel Beer, Talk 'N Text and Meralco will not have a pick in the first round.
