Cagayan, Army look to seal V-League finals stints

MANILA, Philippines – Cagayan Valley and Philippine Army are aiming to wrap up their semi-finals series and book a seat in the Finals of the Shakey's V-League Season 11 Open Conference Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.

Philippine Army took a 1-0 lead in its best-of-three series against Philippine Air Force with a 24-26, 25-19, 25-20, and 25-19 victory in Game 1.

Meanwhile, Cagayan defeated PLDT Home Telpad, 25-11, 16-25, 25-14, and 25-20, to come within a game of a Finals berth.

Both Army and Cagayan used their attacking game to take the leads in the short semi-finals series,with Army producing 61 kills against Air Force and Cagayan knocking in 62 kills.

Army won in four sets against Air Force even with star Rachel Ann Daquis struggling, as its other spiekrs came through. Jovelyn Gonzaga had 18 points and Mary Jean Balse added 13, while Genie Sabas and Joanne Bunag combined for 24.

Cagayan will take on PDLT Home Telpad at 2 p.m., followed by the Army-Air Force showdown at 4 p.m.
