La Salle posts easy win vs UP, extends streak to 7

 MANILA – The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers completed an easy 86-65 win against the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in the UAAP men’s basketball wars at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

 Almond Vosotros paced the Archers with 21 points on 8 for 14 field-goal shooting, while team captain Jeron Teng tallied 15 .

The conquest extended the defending champion’s win streak to 7 straight games after opening the season with 2 straight losses.

La Salle unloaded a 17-7 run against UP to convert a 3-point lead, 42-39, to a 15-point spread, 68-53, going to the fourth period.

The Archers further widened the gap to an insurmountable 22-point lead, 79-57, after an injury-free Arnold Van Opstal converted a jumper basket with 6 minutes to go.

JR Gallarza finished with 18 points for the Fighting Maroons, who fell to their 8th defeat in 9 games.

With the win, La Salle overtook second-running Far Eastern University for a 2-way tie with Ateneo on top (7-2).

“I’m happy, but I’m not looking at the streak,” Archers coach Juno Sauler told UAAP Sports TV prior to the game.
