Algieri expects 'cordial' press tour with Pacquiao
MANILA – Undefeated boxer Chris Algieri said he expects a friendly press tour with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.
The multi-city promotional tour for their bout starts next week.
“I’ve never met Manny but from what I’ve heard and from what I’ve seen, he’s just a great guy and I’ve heard really good things about him,” Algieri, who has yet to taste defeat in 20 fights, said in RingTV.
Algieri recently won the WBO light welterweight crown by upsetting Russia’s Ruslan Provodnikov. This time, he’ll be challenging Pacquiao for the welterweight strap on November 22 in Macau.
The fight will be televised on HBO Pay-Per-View at the Venetian Casino, where the Filipino superstar decisioned Brandon Rios in 2013.
The tour will begin on Monday at the Venetian Macau, and will have stops in Shanghai, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York.
“This is not going to be one of those press tours where there’s a lot of animosity and trash-talking, which I’m looking forward to. I think that it’s going to be a very humble and cordial event and I’m looking forward to it,” said Algieri.
“I think that it’s going to be very classy between two champions who are meeting and we’ll be in several different countries. I’m looking forward to that.”
