MANILA, Philippines – World Boxing Council (WBC) “Emeritus Champion” Toshiaki Nishioka said he is very excited to be fighting a superstar like Nonito Donaire Jr.
His title clash against Donaire is considered as the biggest fight in Japan’s history and Nishioka is very happy to be part of it.
Nishioka told Japan Times that he considers Donaire as his most important opponent because he considers the “Filipino Flash” as no ordinary fighter.
"Donaire has a great reputation around the world and is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters," he said. "He's the one who I'll be fired up for the most."
Nishioka will be challenging Donaire for the latter’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) super bantamweight title.
Also to be fought out on October 13 will be the RING Magazine and the WBC Diamond titles.
Former world champion Tsuyoshi Hamada, current representative of Teiken Gym, thinks it will be a hard fight for Nishioka due to Donaire's power punches.
"How Nishioka handles a guy like that . . . that'll be really interesting," Hamada said.
