MANILA, Philippines – Nonito Donaire Jr. said the Toshiaki Nishioka bout is more than just the titles.

Donaire said facing Nishioka means having the bragging rights to have fought the best of the best in his division.

“It was the same thing when I fought [Vic] Darchinyan, it was the same thing when I fought [Fernando] Montiel. It’s fighting the best,” the Filipino Flash said in RingTV.

Donaire will be staking his World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles against Nishioka on October 13 at the Home Depot in Carson City, California.

Also at stake in the 12-round super bantamweight bout are the RING Magazine and the World Boxing Council (WBC) Diamond belt.

Donaire said both he and Nishioka have arsenals that could stop fights with just one punch.

“He has a tremendous straight punch, I have a tremendous hook. He can end the fight with one punch and I can end the fight with one punch,” he said.

He added that they also both have fast-paced tempo in the ring.

So it’s just a matter of who’s going to score the knockout punch first, he said.

“He is the speed king and I am ‘The Filipino Flash’ so there’s going to be a clash of speed and a clash of power as well,” said Donaire.
