MANILA, Philippines – Reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) Abner Mares would certainly want to face the winner between Nonito Donire Jr. and Toshiaki Nishioka, according to a ring analyst.
Doug Fischer, RING Magazine editor, said Mares is likely to be interested in all the titles at stake in the Donaire-Nishioka bout.
“Mares is a real prize fighter. Apart from money and respect, he wants any and every belt out there. He will happily add THE RING, WBO (World Boxing Organization (WBO), IBF (International Boxing Federation), and WBC (World Boxing Council) Diamond titles to the WBC 122-pound strap he already owns,” said Fischer in his Monday Mailbag.
Donaire will be staking his WBO and IBF titles against Nishioka.
Given the standing of both Donaire and Nishioka in the 122-pound division, the RING Magazine and the WBC have decided to add their titles into the fray.
Donaire will be facing Nishioka on October 13 at the Home Depot in Carson City, California.
