MANILA, Philippines -- Runner Darwin Lim ran away with the regional title by dominating the men’s division of the 36th National Milo Marathon Naga Eliminations leg last Sunday in Naga City.
Lim took advantage of better weather conditions and his familiarity with the 21-k course to submit a time of 1:16:29.
Crifrankreadel Indapan came in second with 1:17:54, followed by Jucell Laya in 1:22:26.
Lim pocketed the P10,000 top purse.
“My aim is to beat my own time at the 42-k track of the National Finals. I will not prioritize qualifying for the Top 10 runners, but focus on giving a better performance than last year,” said Lim in a statement. “I will try to set the pace for the next race to achieve my goal and win.”
In the women’s division, Jolly Ann Ballester dominated the 21-k track, clocking in at 1:42:43, while Myla Jamon finished in second place with 1:48:10 and Cherry Palles in third with 1:50:06.
Ballester said she is also determined to do better in the National Finals.
“I’m going to focus on training for the next race. Last week’s weather conditions affected my training routine and pace today. I intend to improve my time by increasing the difficulty of my training,” the five-time 21-k track runner said.
A total of 7,848 runners participated in the race.
