MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA) is set to hold a firearm proficiency training for 200 journalists, including members of their family.

PPSA president and Sultan Kudarat Gov. Suharto “Teng” Mangudadatu said PPSA members will personally lead the training which will be held at the Camp Karingal firing range in Sikatuna Village, Quezon City on September 6.

The event will start with a gun safety seminar. An actual firearms proficiency will be highlight of the whole-day event.

Mangudadatu said the seminar itself will teach participants how to handle firearms properly. He also encouraged journalists to be knowledgeable in practical shooting for their self-protection.

"We encourage journalists to experience practical shooting as a sport, not necessarily arming themselves but by mere knowledge of basic safety handling, everybody will be protected in the street and in their homes,” Mangudadatu said.

Among those expected to participate are members of the National Press Club led by president Joel Sy Egco and Kapisanan ng mga Broakaster ng Pilipinas-Metro Manila chapter chairman Rey Langit. -- Raoul Esperas
