MANILA, Philippines – National University (NU) and De La Salle University clinched the first two semi-finals berths in the men's division of the UAAP Season 77 badminton tournament, while University of the Philippines (UP) booked a spot in the next round of the women's division.

The Bulldogs and the Green Archers emerged triumphant against University of the East (UE) and University of Santo Tomas (UST), respectively, via similar 5-0 scores to extend their perfect run at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.

Peter Gabriel Magnaye led the way for NU, while Gerald Sibayan played his usual best for La Salle.

In other men's games, reigning MVP Patrick Natividad starred in Ateneo's 5-0 blanking of Adamson, while UP whipped Far Eastern University (FEU), 5-0.

The Blue Eagles remain in third place with a 4-1 card to zero in on a semis berth, while the Fighting Maroons tied the Growling Tigers in the fourth spot with 2-3 records.

The Falcons and the Red Warriors dropped to 1-4, while the Tamaraws remained winless in five matches.

One of the biggest surprises in the competition, the Lady Maroons nipped the UST Tigresses, 3-2, to remain unbeaten in five matches.

Jessie Francisco survived in the deciding singles match to bail out UP after UST gave the league-leaders a huge fight.

Women's title holder Ateneo, meanwhile, also closed in on a semi-finals spot with a 4-1 win over Adamson for a 4-1 record.

La Salle beat NU, 3-2, while FEU tripped UE, 4-1, to tie UST in the third to fifth places with 3-2 records, making the race to the semi-finals too close to call.

The Lady Falcons and the Lady Warriors are tied at 1-4, while the Lady Bulldogs are stuck in the cellar with a 0-5 record.
