MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – The Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) Blue Eagles scored a come-from-behind 74-71 win over the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws to seize the solo lead in the UAAP men’s basketball standings.
The Eagles launched a big fight back in the final period en route to their 6th win after trailing the Tamaraws in the first 3 quarters.
Greg Slaughter led Ateneo with 17 points to go with his 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 blocks in completing an all-around performance.
The Tamaraws were in complete control of the game in the first two quarters where they led by double digits, 37-27, at the half.
In the third canto, the Eagles began scoring from beyond the arc to cut the lead to 49-53.
Ateneo completed the turn around in the final quarter when Ryan Buenafe and Nico Salva uncorked a 7-2 run versus FEU, 56-55.
Juami Tiongson, part of the Eagles’ third quarter-attack, finished with 12 points. Kiefer Ravena also scored 12 points, while Buenafe had 10.
RR Garcia top scored the Tamaraws with 21 points.
With the victory, Ateneo wounded up at first place with a 6-1 slate in the first round of the eliminations.
FEU, meanwhile, slid to third place with 5-2, behind second-ranked University of Sto. Tomas (5-1).
