MANILA, Philippines – An British mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter successfully stopped an armed robbery in Las Vegas, an MMA website reported.

According to The Underground, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter James McSweeney used his MMA skills to immobilize a robber who was armed with a knife.

McSweeney was touring his mother and sister in Las Vegas when they noticed the commotion at a nearby ABC convenience store.

“Two men were arguing loudly inside the store near the door. When the female clerk went over to ask them to take it outside, one pulled a knife and directed her back to the register. The second man took position near the door. The man with the knife started grabbing cash out of the register,” said the report.

McSweeney decided to step in, grabbing the knife wielder's wrist then shoving the attacker’s face to the floor.

“James knelt put one knee in the middle of the man's back and immobilized the knife hand by trapping it in the crook of his other knee.”

The second thief was shocked by the action and immediately ran out of the store.

No one was injured during the failed attack.

According to MMA Fighting, McSweeney is a former security guard in his native England.

He currently fights at Shamrock Events Kings of Kombat.
