MANILA, Philippines – University of the East (UE) swept the first round of the boys division with plenty to spare on Saturday in UAAP Season 77 high school volleyball action at the Adamson Gym.
The reigning 10-time champions needed only 44 minutes to rout UP Integrated School, 25-9, 25-8, 25-10. Despite losing some key players to graduation, UE remained dominant with six straight victories this season.
In the other matches, last season's runner-up National University overcame a second-set loss to turn back La Salle-Zobel, 25-16, 14-25, 25-17, 25-20, while Ateneo fashioned out a 25-22, 25-19, 25-19 win over University of Santo Tomas.
The Bullpups finished second with a 5-1 card, while the Blue Eaglets improved to 4-2 at third place. UST held a 3-3 record in fourth, followed by Far Eastern University-Diliman (2-4), La Salle-Zobel (1-5) and UPIS (0-6).
