MANILA – Former world champion Amir Khan thinks he didn't get a fight against Manny Pacquiao because the Filipino is scared of him.
Khan, a former training partner of Pacquiao, said the 8-division champion may have doubts about his chances after his (Khan's) welterweight fight against Luis Collazo.
“Maybe that scares him, I don't know,” he said in Mancurian Matters.
Khan, a superstar in Britain, outboxed Collazo en route to a unanimous decision that won him the WBC silver and WBA international welterweight titles last May.
What frustrated Khan even more was Pacquiao’s decision to fight Algieri instead.
“He's a nobody,” said Khan.
“Well he's not a nobody. You’ve got to respect him but he's not a big name, and if Manny Pacquiao wanted to make big money in boxing, he needs to fight big names.”
Khan and Pacquiao used to be sparring partners when they both trained under Freddie Roach.
The Briton, however, left Roach in 2012 in search for a new trainer.
