MANILA, Philippines – Jollo Go torched the hoops with 27 points, but this wasn't enough to tow Batang Gilas past a taller Argentina in the classification round of the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship in Dubai.
Argentina defeated the Filipinos, 84-71, despite nearly squandering a 22-point lead, according to a report from the Philippine Star.
Jolo Mendoza, who averaged close to 16 points per game, wasn’t able to suit up for the Batang Gilas after he sustained a hamstring injury in their defeat at the hands of France.
The Filipinos trailed by double digits but were able to find their shooting touch from the perimeter, nailing 13 triples that cut the deficit to 7 points.
But the Argentinians used their superior height to out-rebound Batang Gilas, 62-40, handing the Filipinos’ 5th straight defeat in the tournament.
