MANILA – American boxer Chris Algieri said Team Pacquiao should not underestimate his punching power even though he has only a 40-percent knockout percentage.

Algieri said he can be a strong puncher too as shown by his 8 career-stoppage in 20 victories.

The American also said he has yet to taste defeat in the boxing ring.

“I hit harder than people think,” he said in an interview with Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.

He said that aside from his vaunted jab, he also fights smart compared to other boxers.

“I have special skills which I can keep up the whole fight. I know how to use my reach advantage and my jab is the key. This is boxing,” said Algieri.

The New Yorker earlier said he is eager to disprove critics, stressing that he won’t be showing up in the ring just to pick up a $1 million paycheck.

“Mark my words, I'm coming in fully prepared and I'm sure Manny knows this and Freddie knows this as well. I'm coming to win this fight, I'm not here to get a payday, I'm not here just to fight Manny Pacquiao,” said Algieri.

“I'm here to win this fight… Anyone who's looking past that fact doesn't know me, doesn't know anything about me.”
