MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals, who are scheduled to play in the Peace Cup this September, remained at 128th in the FIFA men’s football rankings.
The Azkals are also the top team in Southeast Asia and No. 18 in Asia, with Vietnam slipping 10 notches to No. 139.
Singapore went up two notches to No. 152, while Malaysia sank four places to No. 155. Indonesia is at No. 153 and Thailand at No. 157.
The Philippines last saw action in the 2014 Challenge Cup, where it finished second behind eventual champions Palestine, which slipped three notches to No. 88.
The Azkals will get its rematch against Palestine in the Philippine Peace Cup, which will also be participated by Myanmar (No. 160) and Chinese Taipei (No. 179).
The Peace Cup will also serve as the team’s preparation for the tougher 2014 Suzuki Cup this November.
World Cup 2014 winner Germany and runner-up Argentina remain at the top of the standings, followed by Netherlands, Colombia and Belgium.
