MANILA – Manny Pacquiao’s challenger, Chris Algieri, thanked Freddie Roach for commenting on his left jab.
Algieri said he felt good after hearing a world-renowned coach praise his jab.
“‘Alright, thank you Freddie, I got a good jab’. If 1 of the best boxing coaches in the world says you got a good jab, that’s a good thing,” the Long Island-based boxer said in an interview with Tha Boxing Voice.
Roach earlier acknowledged that the undefeated American's jab deserves some credit. He, however, said that it's about the only thing Algieri has in terms of offense.
“He's got a good jab. That's it," the feisty boxing trainer said.
But Algieri stressed that he’s got more things going for him than just a good left jab.
He said these qualities will put Pacquiao in trouble when they meet in the ring on November 22 in Macau.
“I got good footwork and I got heart. So that’s a problem [for Pacquiao].”
Algieri added that being the underdog is nothing to him. He’s been an underdog in previous fights, but is still undefeated in 20 bouts.
“I was an underdog against Emmanuel Taylor. I was an underdog against Ruslan Provodnikov. Everyone was saying I didn’t belong in there. Obviously I proved I belonged to be there,” he said.
“People are saying I don’t belong to be in with Manny. You will see on November 22nd, that I belong to be there. I’m gonna go out and be me and if I’m me, to a 100%, I’m gonna win that fight.”
