Amateur boxing champ returns home

MANILA, Philippines – Eumir Felix Marcial, the Filipino amateur boxer who triumphed in the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships, returned home to Zamboanga City last Monday.

The 15-year-old Marcial is the 1st Filipino amateur boxer to win a gold in the competition held last week in Kazakhstan.

Eumir Marcial is congratulated by Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat.

After a motorcade through the streets of his hometown, Marcial paid a courtesy call to Zamboanga City mayor Celso Lobregat.

Lobregat expressed his happiness with Marcial’s achievement, saying that the young boxer brought honor not only to the city but also the whole country.

Marcial said that in every match, he is inspired by his family.

He said that he wants to give a better life for his family, especially for his 4 siblings.

He thanked Manny Pangilinan, the chairman of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP), for giving him a P300,000 cash incentive.
