MANILA, Philippines – Joe Devance became the second player from Barangay Ginebra to be named the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week after he helped the Gin Kings in their huge win over NLEX in the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup.
The 6-foot-7 Devance had 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting in Ginebra's 110-97 win over NLEX in Calasiao, Pangasinan, which was the Road Warriors' first loss of the conference.
With Devance leading the charge, the Gin Kings took control of the game in the third period en route to a third consecutive victory in the Governors' Cup.
Devance edged Ginebra teammates LA Tenorio and Greg Slaughter, San Miguel's June Mar Fajardo, Star's Ian Sangalang, Meralco guard Chris Newsome, and Blackwater's Mike DiGregorio for the weekly citation.
Tenorio was the first player from Ginebra to win Player of the Week honors.
The Kings are now at solo fourth spot in the standings, behind league-leader Meralco Bolts (4-0), Star Hotshots (3-0) and NLEX (4-1) heading into the week-long break to give way to Gilas’ FIBA Asia Cup campaign in Beirut, Lebanon.
Ginebra now takes a three-week break and won’t see action till August 26 against Alaska.
