MANILA, Philippines -- John Pinto towed Arellano University past College of St. Benilde with a buzzer-beating shot for a 67-66 victory in the 90th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City on Friday.
Pinto was at the right place and at the right time when he plucked the offensive rebound and launched the game-winning shot that lifted the Chiefs closer to league-leader San Beda.
Pinto punished the Blazers for not boxing out.
He sprinted inside the land and when American teammate Dioncee Holts missed the back end of his two charities, Pinto jumped to snatch the rebound for a buzzer-beating basket that sealed Arellano’s 7th win against 2 losses.
"What can I say, he made the biggest plays of the game," said Arellano U coach Jerry Codinera, referring to Pinto, who is playing his last season.
Pinto is one of the PBA draft aspirants.
The Blazers, for their part, were back as heartbreak kids after blowing several chances at snatching the win.
