MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Rain or Shine has offered a three-year contract extension worth P15.12 million to prized guard Paul Lee, whose contract with the Elasto Painters is set to expire by the end of the month.
Rain or Shine team governor Mert Mondragon told Spin.ph’s Snow Badua that they have already forwarded their offer, which is the maximum allowable amount based on league rules.
“Nagbigay na kami sa manager niya kahapon ng offer sheet. Maximum ‘yun. P420,000 [a month] tapos three years,” said Mondragon.
“Siguro naman wala na silang hihingin pa run. Maximum na 'yun. Alam naman niya na we follow the rules. The rule says P420,000 ang maximum, P420,000 ang offer namin,” added Mondragon.
Rain or Shine was forced to cough up the offer as other teams have reportedly expressed interest to get Lee. Among those who are said to be actively courting the former University of the East (UE) standout is San Miguel Beer.
But Mondragon stressed that any offer that will trump their bid is surely deemed as a violation of the league rules.
“Kung may ibang team na magagawa pa ring lagpasan `yung offer namin na maximum, nakakapagduda na 'yun. Mas malamang ‘over da bakod, under the table’ na 'yun,” he said.
Lee’s PBA affairs is currently being handled by his manager Lawrence Chongson as the combo guard is busy training with the Gilas Pilipinas pool in Spain for the coming FIBA World Cup of Basketball.
