MANILA – Hall-of-Fame trainer Freddie Roach does not see anything special about unbeaten American boxer Chris Algieri as he expects Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao to handle him easily in their November 22 fight.
Pacquiao will be defending his WBO welterweight belt against the American, who earned his shot after beating another one of Roach's fighters, Russian brawler Ruslan Provodnikov.
Speaking to Ronnie Nathanielsz of Boxing Scene, Roach revealed that he does not think highly of Algieri.
"(Algieri is) a boxer who has a good jab," Roach said, "But he is nothing special."
Roach expects Pacquiao to "press (Algieri) a bit," and believes that the "Pacman" will "knock him out along the way."
This is not the first time that Roach downplayed Algieri's capabilities inside the ring, recently saying that all that the American has is "a good jab."
