MNILA, Philippines – US Open women’s champion Serena Williams and tennis legend Andre Agassi will be joining the Singapore Slammers, which will compete in the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) that will also feature Russian superstar Maria Sharapova and Andy Murray of the Manila Mavericks.
The team owners of the Singapore Slammers have recently announced its participating players, team owners and event details.
The Singapore team owners, a group of tennis enthusiasts and businessmen consisting of Indian cricket legend, Sunil Gavaskar, Shashi Kiran Shetty, Ajay Sethi and Kishan Gehlot, presented the Slammers, which includes Williams, Agassi, Tomas Berdych, Daniela Hantuchova, Bruno Soares and Australian stand-outs Lleyton Hewitt, Patrick Rafter and Nick Kyrgios.
The Singapore Slammers will compete against the Manila Mavericks, the UAE Royals and the Indian Aces for the total prize money of $1 million.
Manila will be the first leg of the league that will also have stops in Singapore, India and the United Arab Emirates.
Sharapova, Murray will be joined by the Philippines’ Treat Huey, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Kirsten Flipekns, Daniel Nestor and Carlos Moya during the Manila leg of the IPTL on November 28-30 at the Araneta Coliseum.
"We are happy that our Philippines No. 1 and current ATP Doubles Top 30 Treat Huey has joined the Manila team, so his fans finally get to see him live in action at a home event for the first time," Philippine Tennis Association president Edwin L. Olivarez said in a statement.
