Mexican fighter thinks Pacquiao can win by KO
MANILA, Philippines – Juan Manuel Marquez has always been critical against Manny Pacquiao regarding the results of their previous bouts.
But this time, the Mexican superstar sided with Pacquiao when it comes to the Filipino's fight against Chris Algieri, the American boxer who upset Ruslan Provodnikov last June.
Marquez said Algieri virtually has no chance against an experienced fighter like Pacquiao.
"He barely has a chance to win,” said Marquez in Boxing Scene.
“Algieri is strong and he's durable. He lso has boxing ability, as he's shown against Ruslan Provodnikov - but he doesn't have the style to beat Pacquiao, who has great speed and power.”
Marquez said the mismatch is so glaring that he believes Pacquiao might even knock out Algieri, who has never been defeated in 20 fights.
Even Pacquiao hinted that he might go for a knockout this time, something that he hasn’t done since stopping Miguel Cotto in 2009.
“Magandang laban ito,” he said in a previous interview with ABS-CBN’s Anthony Taberna. “Matagal na rin akong walang knockout.”
Algieri, however, thinks he is capable of pulling an upset against Pacquiao just like he did against Provodnikov.
“I wouldn't take a fight [I] don't think I'd ever win,” he said.
The reason for this is that he thinks the Filipino boxing superstar has been fighting the same type of opponents.
“Manny's got a lot of fight, a lot of experience, but the string of guys he fought in the last five, six, seven, eight years are all the same kind of guys,” said the Long Island-native. “I'm not one of those guys.”
