MANILA, Philippines – Former PBA Rookie of the Year Rich Alvarez is hoping to follow the example set by Asi Taulava as he attempts to revive his professional basketball career.

Alvarez is among the many hopefuls who have joined the tryouts of expansion team KIA Motors. He recently told that it was Taulava's performance last season that prompted him to give his career another shot.

"Everyone has their own goals set for themselves. Asi just inspired everyone," Alvarez said of the 41-year-old Taulava, who put together an MVP-caliber season last year.

"Guys who are older are thinking, 'If he can do it, maybe we can do it too,'" he added. "Not to the level of being an MVP contender, but just to be able to compete at that level."

Alvarez played the last three seasons for Talk 'N Text but barely got any playing time. Still, he believes that he still has what it takes to compete in the PBA.

"I know I can still play," said the 33-year-old forward. "I wanna try and do what I can."

"It's fun playing again," he also said. "I'm getting back in shape, and hopefully, everything works out."
