MANILA, Philippines -- De La Salle University and National University (NU) continued to steamroll the opposition after last season's finalists extended their winning streaks to five games in the UAAP Season 77 women's basketball tournament on Sunday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The defending champions Lady Archers built a 15-point third quarter lead before coasting to a 48-39 win over rivals Ateneo, while the Lady Bulldogs needed a huge second half to drub Far Eastern University (FEU), 56-40.

La Salle pulled away in the third quarter as Cass Santos, Trisha Piatos and Nicole Garcia combined for 15 points to build a 44-29 advantage, and the Lady Archers never looked back from there.

The Lady Archers did have to overcome Ateneo center Danica Jose's double-double performance of 17 points and 22 rebounds.

Kristine Abriam scored 16 points as the Lady Bulldogs erased the Lady Tamaraws' 20-16 halftime lead and turned it into a 35-24 advantage entering the final quarter.

University of the East (UE), meanwhile, stunned Adamson University 54-53, in overtime, while University of Santo Tomas (UST) escaped with a 44-43 win over the upset-minded University of the Philippines, to force a five-way tie for the third spot.

Ruthlaine Tacula split her charities in the final 17 seconds, and the Lady Warriors needed a big defensive stop against the Lady Falcons in the endgame to preserve the victory. Tacula finished with 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

The Tigresses were scoreless in the final 3:17 after a Kristine Siapoc basket, but managed to hold on to the victory and send the Lady Maroons to their fifth consecutive defeat.

Ateneo, Adamson, FEU, UST and UE are now all tied for third place with identical 2-3 win-loss records.
