MANILA, Philippines – The defending champions San Beda Red Lions and the National University (NU) Bulldogs pulled off contrasting wins in the 10th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium in Quezon City.
The Red Lions got 18 points from Van Abatayo as they prevailed over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 83-64.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs had to hold off a late rally from the Far Eastern University Tamaraws for a 65-60 triumph.
Alfred Aroga led the Bulldogs with 25 points, 13 of which came in the first period alone. Jay Alejandro scored 15 points in the third period for NU.
The Red Lions and the Bulldogs now share the lead in Group-A along with the San Sebastian Stags-A.
In the juniors division, the Chiang Kai Shek Blue Dragons-A stopped FEU-FERN, 71-56, with Jeremy James Gallemit and Dale Dy scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The San Beda Red Cubs, meanwhile, turned back CKSC-B, 58-55. Mark Anthony Framil scored 12 ponits and Airon Capolito added 10 markers.
John Alacre fired 23 points for the Letran Squires, who pummeled the Adamson Junior Falcons, 65-46.
