UE boys still unbeaten in UAAP high school volleyball

MANILA, Philippines -- Reigning boys champion University of the East (UE) registered back-to-back straight sets victories over the weekend to remain undefeated in the UAAP Season 77 high school volleyball tournament at the Adamson University gym.

The Junior Warriors, league champions for the last 10 seasons, whipped De La Salle-Zobel, 25-12, 25-18 and 25-17, on Saturday and then dealt with tournament newcomer Far Eastern University (FEU)-Diliman, 25-17, 25-7, and 25-13 on Sunday.

Last season's runner-up, the National University, joined UE on top with a 3-0 card after beating University of Santo Tomas (UST), 24-26, 5-16, 25-22, and 26-24, on Saturday, and then the UP Integrated School, 25-12, 25-16, and 25-19, on Sunday.

The UST Tiger Cubs dropped to 2-1 in a tie with Ateneo in third place. The Blue Eaglets defeated the Junior Archers, 25-16, 25-16, and 25-21, on Sunday.

The Baby Tamaraws, meanwhile, booked their first-ever win in the league last Saturday by defeating the Junior Maroons, 25-19, 25-22, anjd 26-24.

FEU-Diliman is now tied with La Salle-Zobel with identical 1-3 win-loss records. UPIS is winless after four games.

In girls' play, titleholder UST turned back Adamson University, 25-20, 25-21, and 25-22, on Saturday for its second straight win.

FEU-Diliman prevailed over UPIS, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22, and 25-13, for its first ever victory in the girls' division, while NU beat UE, 25-17, 17-25, 25-7, and 25-19.
