MANILA, Philippines – Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz is roaring to get back in the title picture just 1 month after registering his 1st win since 2006.
Ortiz defeated Ryan Bader via submission last July in UFC 132, in what was his first victory since a technical knockout win over Ken Shamrock in October 2006.
"This is the rebirth of Tito Ortiz," he told UFC.com.
But to get back in title contention, Ortiz will have to defeat Rashad Evans.
Ortiz and Evans will headline UFC 133 in a rematch. The 2 fighters fought to a draw in July 2007’s UFC 73 event.
"I always love paybacks," Ortiz said, adding that he will take the opportunity to beat Evans.
"The first time we fought... he didn't feel that strong, he felt weak," Ortiz said.
But Ortiz admitted that Evans has since gotten better.
"He's gotten a lot stronger since then. It's not an easy fight," he said.
"I'm on a hunt to get my world title back, and if I have to work through Rashad to make that happen, I'm going to," Ortiz promised. "I know I've got my hands full, but I'm gonna give it my all. I'm ready to fight and I'm gonna get my hand raised."
