MANILA, Philippines – The kick-off of this year's Milo Little Olympics has been moved to a later date to give way for student athletes' periodic examinations.
Originally set for August 3-5 and 11-12, the event has been rescheduled on August 10-12 and 18-19 at the Marikina Sports Park.
According to the Department of Education (DepEd), which is working in tandem with the event organizers, the national periodic examinations for elementary and secondary students were moved to August 2-3 in lieu of cancelled class days.
The Milo Little Olympics offer student-athletes a chance to showcase their athletic excellence as the first step toward international competitions like the South East Asian Games, the World Youth Cup and the Asian Junior Track Meet.
Among the sports to be featured by the Little Olympics are athletics, badminton, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, tae kwon do and volleyball, sipa or sepak takraw and scrabble.
The Little Olympics Luzon leg is slated on August 17 – 19, the Visayas leg on August 24 – 26, and September 1 and 2, and the Mindanao leg on September 7 to 9.
All winners from the elimination legs will compete in the National Finals in NCR on October 19 to 21, 2012.
