Jones suffers cut ahead of Cormier fight
MANILA – Jon “Bones” Jones sustained a cut above his right eye less than 2 months before his UFC light heavyweight title defense against Daniel Cormier in UFC 178.
The wound required four stitches to close and is expected to hamper Jones' training for the fight set at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
Jones, however, said he expects his cut to heal in a week’s time, and that he would be able to train again wearing a headgear.
“FYI this is a completely different scar than the one I had in that area previously, they're not even touching... The four stitches will be out in four days. The wound should be healed within a week. Time for me to start wearing my head gear #adversityisnothing,” the New York-based fighter said in Instagram.
Bones was supposed to defend his title in a rematch against Alexander Gustafsson.
But “The Mauler” sustained a knee injury while preparing for the fight, and this allowed Cormier to step up for the challenge.
UFC 178 will take place on September 27.
