MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American coach Erik Spoelstra of the champion NBA team Miami Heat has arrived in Manila on Wednesday.
Spoelstra, the first Asian-American coach ever to win an NBA title, will be in the Philippines from August 2-5 as part of the NBA Trophy Tour.
He is scheduled to hold a press conference on Thursday before making rounds in select malls in Metro Manila for meet-and-greet sessions with basketball fans.
Spoelstra, whose mother is a native of San Pablo, Laguna, has been a frequent visitor in the Philippines as part of the NBA FIT Program.
But this visit is different as he will be showing the Miami Heat’s NBA Trophy to Filipino fans.
Spoelstra steered the Miami Heat to win the 2012 NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, 4-1.
