MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American fighter Ana Julaton is thrilled to be included in ONE FC’s inaugural fight card in Dubai, which has the largest Filipino community in the United Arab Emirates.
“The Hurricane” said she is excited to relive the experience of fighting in front of her country men -- just like what she did last May when she defeated Egypt’s Aya Saber at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay.
“I fight all over the world and I hear that there is a big Filipino community over there -- I will be ecstatic to fight for my kababayans there and all those watching all over the globe!” in an online correspondence with ABS-CBNnews.com.
There are approximately 680,000 Filipinos in the UAE, of which 450,000 live in Dubai.
This time, Julaton will be fighting Malaysia’s Ann “Athena” Osman, in ONE FC: Reign of Champions at the Dubai World Trade Center on August 29.
The former world boxing champion said the feeling of being cheered on by fellow Filipinos at the heat of the battle is indescribable.
“I loved it! Throughout my boxing career, I've fought in different countries and to have my first MMA pro fight in the Philippines was one of my most memorable fights,” said Julaton, referring to her MMA debut in Manila.
She was at the edge of defeat in that bout when her more experienced foe trapped her with a guillotine choke.
But Julaton she was able to pry herself out of the choke and turned the tables on Saber by punishing the Egyptian with a vicious ground-and-pound in the third round.
Julaton said she hopes to give her Pinoy fans another good fight when she collides against Osman.
“I'm proud to be Filipina and I'm thankful to have Filipinos all over the world support and understand what I stand for. I carry my kababayans in my heart and they are with me when I step in the arena. Whatever the situation may be, I plan on bringing my best and showing exciting fights!” said the Filipino-
American, who wants to become the first athlete to win titles in both boxing and MMA.
ONE FC: Reign of Champions will also feature the welterweight title fight between Ben Askren and Nobutatsu Suzuki and the lightweight championship bout between Shinya Aoki and Kamal Shalorus.
