MANILA, Philippines – The Miami Heat officially welcomed the Philippine national basketball team to their city, with the team sending a message to Gilas Pilipinas and Coach Chot Reyes on Twitter.
"Welcome to Miami, Coach Chot and Gilas! We hope your training camp for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup is going well!"
Reyes replied: "Yes it is! Thanks for the welcome. Hope you could drop by so we can visit."
Gilas had been hoping that Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, who is of Filipino descent, can drop by their training sessions.
The national team decided to hold their training camp in Miami so that naturalized player Andray Blatche can join them.
The Miami training camp kicks off the national team's preparations for the FIBA World Cup in Spain in August.
