La Salle, NU still unbeaten in women's hoops

MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle University and National University (NU) maintained their unbeaten slates after turning back separate foes in the UAAP Season 77 women's basketball tournament Sunday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The Lady Archers defeated the University of the East, 64-56, while the Lady Bulldogs prevailed over Ateneo, 59-50.

Nicole Garcia finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Trisha Piatos added 10 points, six boards and three assists of the bench as defending champion La Salle extended its perfect run to four games.

Meanwhile, Shelley Gupilan and Afril Bernardino combined for 25 points to push NU to 3-0, good for second place.

In another game, Far Eastern University nipped the University of Santo Tomas, 57-56, while Adamson University whipped University of the Philippines, 57-44.

The Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Falcons improved to 2-2 to join the struggling Lady Eagles in third place, while the Lady Warriors suffered their second loss in three matches to drop to the sixth spot.

The Tigress slipped to seventh with a 1-3 slate, while the Lady Maroons have yet to register a win after four games.

Meanwhile, the NU-UE match, which was called off last Thursday at the Blue Eagle Gym, will be played on Wednesday, 10 a.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Arena ahead of the men's basketball double-header.
