MANILA – After lagging in the first three quarters, University of Sto. Tomas (UST) managed to pull off a come-from-behind victory via Kent Lao’s winning free throw against hard luck Adamson University in UAAP Men’s basketball tournament on Saturday.

With the scores tied 49-all in the final seconds, Lao split his charities to tow the Growling Tigers to a 50-49 victory over the Soaring Falcons.

The Espana-based dribblers played catch up for most of the game, having to face a stiff challenge posed by the Falcons who did well despite the absence of suspended player Don Trollano.

Near the end of the third stanza, Adamson’s lead went up to 9 points, 42-33, on Tony Inigo’s floater. UST managed to trim the lead to 40-45 going to the final period.

The Tigers’ defense went to work in the fourth quarter when they held the Falcons to just 4 points.

Kevin Ferrer’s pair of charities closed the gap, 49-all, barely two minutes remaining in the game.

Lao missed a pair of free throws in the final minute, but made it up by splitting his charities that gave them their first lead in the game, 50-49, with 2 seconds to go.

The Falcons tried to win the game via an alley-oop, but Jansen Rios failed to convert the attempt.

Louie Vigil had 11 points for UST, which also got 8 points and 9 rebounds from Karim Abdul.

The Growling Tigers improved their record to 2-1, while the Falcons remain winless in three starts.
